About the Event
Come along on a Forage & Wander, and explore the incredible abundance of wild edibles, as we take a walk through Weetslade Country Park, an area of woodland, meadow and hedgerow, which sits on a former coillery site just outside of Cramlington. We'll be searching for seasonal wild edibles as we explore, connecting to the landscape through food gathered by hand, and expanding on your own knowledge and understanding of an ancient skill.
- What to Expect -
🌱You will learn how to correctly identify around 15 different wild edibles, which can include flowers, fruits, foliage and fungi.
🌱We'll be covering how to forage safely and within the law.
🌱How to act sustainably when out and about, and why it's important for you and the landscape.
🌱You will learn why its beneficial to know your local landscape and why this information can be important to us as foragers.
🌱We'll also look at the medicinal and nutritional benefits of the wild edibles we come across.
🌱I'll be sharing hints and tips of how to make the most of the wild food we come across at home.
All levels of interest are welcome, and children aged 14 and under can come along for free with an adult.
- What to Bring -
Please dress for the unpredictable British weather, and wear whatever footwear you feel comfortable in.
If the weather has been wet, please expect the paths to be muddy.
Feel free to bring a notepad and pen if you want to take notes along the way.
- Accessibility -
This route is through public park and while the paths are very well maintained, they can be quite muddy in places if the weather has been wet, and quite steep.
There is a large car park available which is free to use, but it can be busy at peak times. There are no public toilet facilities available at the park.
Assistance dogs are always welcome.
