About the Event
Teaching children about the wild edibles which grow all around them, can be an incredible way of encouraging them to get out and explore nature, to really engage with their world and to begin to build an understanding of the how everything in nature works together.Â
Children love to explore with all of their senses, and foraging can be a true gift for the senses - even for adults. The sights, smells, textures, tastes and sounds are just some of the reasons why so many people are drawn to foraging.
Come along on one of nature's greatest treasure hunts and explore a few common and easily identifiable wild foods, as we take a walk through Doddington Wood, a small area of woodland right in the heart of Cramlington.
This Foraging With Kids session is aimed at children 4+ but all children will be welcomed.Â
-What to Expect-
🌱Well be looking at around 6 - 10 different wild edible plants, which are likely to be familiar and easy to identify.
🌱We'll be using our senses to explore these plants and to get to know them a little better.
🌱There will be little activities for the children to engage with along the way if they wish too.
🌱I'll also be giving advice on how to forage safely and within the law and how to act sustainably when out and about.
🌱We'll also look at some of the medicinal and nutritional benefits of the wild edibles we come across.
Each child will also recieve their own Forager's Field Guide for them to fill in along the walk, which they can take home and continue to add to as they build on their knowledge.Â
