Introduction to Mushroom Identification

Take a walk through ancient woodlands during the peak of the Autumn season, and discover the incredible array of shapes, colours and flavours of wild fungi. October is widely considered to be the best time of year for mushroom foraging, and we'll be delving into the different tools and methods used for identifying these weird and wonderful woodland inhabitants, with the hope of finding a few tasty morsels!

- What to Expect -

🌱We'll be walking through ancient broadleaf woodland, a mix of Beech, Oak and Birch, looking for seasonal fungi along the way.

🌱You will learn how to identify wild fungi using several different tools and methods, and comparing the results.

🌱You will learn how to forage for mushrooms safely and within the law.

🌱We'll discuss how to act sustainably when out and about and why it's important.

🌱 As we walk through the woodlands, we'll explore the importance of tree identification when it comes to foraging for mushrooms and learn about their symbiotic relationship.

🌱I'll be sharing my own personal tips and tricks for harvesting edible mushrooms, and how I preserve and use them at home.

🌱We'll be looking at identifying both edible and non-edible fungi.

- What to Bring -

Please dress for the unpredictable British weather, and wear whatever footwear you feel comfortable in. 

Feel free to bring a notepad and pen if you want to take notes along the way.

- Accessibility -

This route is through woodland and while the paths are well tended, they can be mudding and difficult in places. There is plenty of parking available within the country park. There are also toilet facilities available. If you have any accessibility requirements I ask that you can please get in touch before booking just to make sure that this route is right for you.
