Time & Location

Kirknewton Village hall, Kirknewton, Wooler NE71 6XF, UK
About the Event
Explore the incredible College Valley, a vast and wild landscape in North Northumberland, as we gather together in the village of Kirknewton. We'll be foraging for delicious wild edibles as we go, discovering how foraging and art can work side by side in deepening our understanding of and connection to this beautiful landscape.
This walk will last for around four hours, including a 30 minute break for lunch, and we will return to the meeting point at the end.
- What to Expect -
🌱We'll look at how to get started with foraging, how to research and identify wild edibles, how to find them and how you can continue building your own knowledge and confidence.
🌱We'll cover how to forage safely and within the law.
🌱Learn how to act sustainably when out and about, and why it's important for you and the landscape.
🌱You will learn how to correctly identify around 15-20 wild edibles, which can include flowers, fruits, foliage and fungi.
🌱You'll be introduced to the various types of nature journaling and exploring what makes them different.
🌱You'll be guided through a few simple sketching techniques to get you started and feeling comfortable and encouraged to record your nature finds along the route through sketching, painting and writing.
🌱Discover how nature journalling can spark curiosity, sharpen your observation skills and help you remember what you find.
No previous artistic experience is necessary as this workshop is not about improving your skill, but rather centred around taking the time to observe and be curious through wild food and creativity.
